The Honourable Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), OFR, has commended the Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies for their professionalism, bravery, and exceptional collaboration in securing the freedom of the abducted victims on 10 July 2026.
The rescue operation, which culminated in the safe release of students and teachers abducted from Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota; Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele; and L.A. Primary School, Ahoro-Esinele in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, stands as a powerful testament to the strength of intelligence-led security operations and interagency cooperation.
According to the Minister, the operation showcased the seamless coordination of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the National Security Adviser’s Tactical Team, and other security and paramilitary agencies. Their collective efforts not only ensured the successful rescue of the victims but also reinforced public confidence in Nigeria’s capacity to respond decisively to security threats.
Describing the mission as a shining example of effective interagency collaboration, General Musa noted that the operation reflected the courage, discipline, professionalism, and commitment of the men and women who dedicate their lives daily to the protection of Nigeria and its citizens.
The Defence Minister emphasized that the operation has emerged as a model of modern intelligence-driven security initiatives, highlighting the critical role of intelligence gathering, information sharing, and coordinated tactical responses in addressing contemporary security challenges. He observed that the success of the mission validates ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening cooperation among military, intelligence, and law-enforcement institutions to ensure faster response times, improved operational effectiveness, and enhanced protection for vulnerable communities across the country.
While celebrating the successful rescue mission, General Musa paid solemn tribute to the brave personnel who lost their lives during the operation. He described their sacrifice as the ultimate expression of patriotism and devotion to duty, noting that their courage and service would forever remain etched in the nation’s memory.
The Minister extended his deepest condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the fallen heroes, praying for strength and comfort for their loved ones during this difficult period. He further assured that the Federal Government remains fully committed to supporting the families of personnel who make the ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation.
General Musa also reaffirmed the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to strengthening Nigeria’s security institutions through sustained investment, strategic leadership, and policy support under the Renewed Hope Agenda. He noted that ongoing investments in modern military platforms, advanced intelligence capabilities, specialized personnel training, and enhanced interagency cooperation are already yielding positive results across various operational theatres nationwide.
According to the Minister, these efforts are significantly improving Nigeria’s ability to combat terrorism, insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, and other forms of criminality, while enhancing national security and public safety.
He assured Nigerians that the Federal Government will continue to provide security agencies with the resources, technology, and institutional support required to effectively discharge their constitutional responsibilities and safeguard the nation’s territorial integrity.
The Defence Minister further urged military commanders and security operatives across all operational theatres to sustain the momentum generated by the successful operation and replicate the same level of coordination, discipline, and operational excellence in ongoing and future missions.
General Musa also expressed profound appreciation to the Government and people of Oyo State for their cooperation and support throughout the rescue effort. He emphasized that community partnership remains an indispensable component of modern security management and national stability.
Recognizing that security is a collective responsibility, he called on citizens across the federation to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, stressing that public cooperation remains one of the most effective tools in the fight against insecurity.
The Minister concluded by congratulating all personnel involved in the operation and reaffirmed the Ministry of Defence’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote peace, stability, and national development.
The rescue of the Oyo schoolchildren and their teachers stands as more than a successful security operation; it is a victory for national resilience, intelligence-driven policing, interagency cooperation, and the enduring determination of Nigeria’s security forces to protect every citizen. As the nation celebrates the safe return of the victims, the operation serves as a powerful reminder that through unity, professionalism, courage, and sacrifice, Nigeria can continue making significant strides toward a safer, more secure, and prosperous future.
