The Honourable Minister of Defence, Christopher Gwabin Musa, has declared that Nigeria’s security and national outlook are gradually improving under the purposeful leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that the administration remains firmly committed to restoring peace, strengthening democratic governance, and driving sustainable national development.

The Defence Minister made the remarks on Thursday, May 21, 2026, in Abuja while speaking with journalists shortly after the official commissioning of the annex branch of Haam Legal Consult Services.

According to General Musa, the Tinubu administration has continued to provide unwavering support to the Armed Forces of Nigeria, significantly boosting the military’s operational capacity and enhancing ongoing efforts to combat terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other security threats across the country.

He disclosed that Nigeria’s military is also strengthening collaboration with the United States and other peace-loving nations through intelligence sharing, strategic partnerships, and joint security efforts aimed at addressing emerging security challenges.

“The President has shown commitment in every aspect towards ensuring that the Armed Forces are adequately supported to defend the nation. The narrative is gradually changing, and Nigerians will continue to witness improvements,” the Minister stated.

General Musa reassured Nigerians that the Armed Forces remain resolute, professional, and fully dedicated to protecting the territorial integrity of the country and safeguarding the lives of citizens.

He, however, stressed that defeating insecurity requires collective national action, insisting that security should not be seen as the responsibility of the military alone.

The Defence Minister called on citizens to support security agencies by remaining vigilant, sharing useful intelligence, and refusing to provide shelter, logistics, or any form of assistance to criminal groups operating within communities.

According to him, some criminal elements continue to survive because they receive support from individuals within society.

“If all Nigerians decide today that there will be no more support for criminals, I can assure you that within one month, these security challenges would largely become things of the past,” he said.

Speaking further on governance and the nation’s democratic future, General Musa emphasized the urgent need for credible, visionary, and patriotic leadership capable of driving meaningful transformation across the country.

He warned against electing leaders with questionable character and urged Nigerians to prioritize competence, integrity, and genuine commitment to national progress when making political decisions.

“We do not need criminal-minded individuals in leadership positions. We need leaders who genuinely have passion for this country and are committed to making the necessary changes Nigeria desires,” he stated.

Drawing comparisons with developed nations, the Minister observed that effective leadership remains the foundation for national growth, institutional stability, and economic prosperity.

“We all travel outside the country and see how things work; it is all about leadership. Once we have purposeful leadership, things will change. Nigeria is changing,” he added.

General Musa also appealed to Nigerians to actively participate in the democratic process by supporting leaders committed to nation-building rather than engaging in ethnic, religious, or sentimental politics.

He cautioned citizens against vote-selling and short-term political gains, warning that compromising electoral integrity ultimately undermines the nation’s future.

On the newly commissioned Haam Legal Consult Services annex office, the Minister commended the initiative of young legal professionals, especially the firm’s Principal Partner and his Special Assistant, Aliyu Anas, for contributing to national development through the legal profession.

He underscored the critical role of law, justice, and respect for human rights in building a peaceful and prosperous society.

“A community that is respected is a community that obeys the law and respects the rights of others. Without law and order, humanity cannot thrive, and no nation can command respect if its laws are not obeyed,” he said.

The Minister further noted that businesses and investments cannot flourish in environments where the rule of law is weak, stressing that justice and institutional integrity remain essential pillars of national development.

He prayed for the continued growth and success of the law firm while encouraging its management to uphold professionalism, fairness, and ethical legal practice in serving humanity.

Earlier in his remarks, the Head of Chambers, Abdulsalam Ibrahim, expressed appreciation to the Defence Minister and his entourage for attending the commissioning ceremony.

He pledged that the firm would continue to deliver legal services guided by fairness, justice, professionalism, and the ethics of the legal profession.

Barrister Ibrahim disclosed that the firm provides services in areas including land and property agreements, legal advisory services, legal drafting, election matters, property management, contract reviews, real estate transactions, and Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) registrations, among others.
