Civil Society Coalition Pledges Support for Competition Law, Consumer Protection and Economic Justice

The Coalition of Civil Society Groups for Peace, Security, Good Governance, Equity and Justice has congratulated Alhaji Aminu Abdukadir Mbamba on his emergence as Chairman of the newly unveiled Institute of Competition and Antitrust Practitioners (ICAP).
In a statement issued on Wednesday, September 24, 2026, the National Coordinator of the Coalition, Comrade James Okoronkwo, described the establishment of ICAP as timely and historic, stressing its potential contribution to strengthening fair competition, investor confidence and consumer protection in Nigeria.
The congratulatory message followed the successful unveiling and investiture ceremony of the Institute held on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at Rockview Royale Hotel, Wuse II, Abuja.
Okoronkwo said the emergence of ICAP brings together lawyers, jurists, regulators, business leaders and scholars with expertise in competition law, antitrust practice, economic regulation and consumer protection.
According to him, these areas remain critical pillars for promoting fair markets, strengthening investor confidence and advancing consumer justice in the country.
He said the Coalition, which has consistently advocated transparency, accountability and equitable economic governance, considers ICAP a strategic partner in addressing monopolistic practices, price exploitation and anti-consumer behaviour capable of negatively affecting ordinary Nigerians.
“Alhaji Aminu Abdukadir Mbamba’s leadership comes at a time when Nigeria urgently needs strong institutions to enforce competition and protect the poor from market abuse,” Okoronkwo said.
He expressed confidence in Mbamba’s ability to lead the professional body with integrity and vision, while pledging the Coalition’s support and collaboration with ICAP.
The National Coordinator said such collaboration would focus on public advocacy, civic education, policy dialogue and stakeholder engagement, with the broader objective of ensuring that competition law contributes to peace, security and economic justice.
The Coalition also commended the Board of Trustees and the Event Planning Committee, led by Chief PAE-Harris OgboIe, SAN, for what it described as a successful launch of the Institute.
Okoronkwo further congratulated the Foundation Fellows of ICAP and wished the Institute a successful take-off as it begins its professional activities.
The Coalition reaffirmed its commitment to promoting peace, security, good governance, equity and justice for all.
