The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has joined voices across the country in celebrating the historic election of Mrs. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, as the 33rd President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), describing her emergence as a triumph of competence, excellence and visionary leadership.
Mrs. Badejo-Okusanya’s election to the helm of Nigeria’s foremost professional body for legal practitioners marks a significant milestone in the nation’s democratic journey and further reinforces the growing influence of women in leadership positions across critical sectors of national development.
In a congratulatory message, the National Chairperson of NAWOJ, Hajia Aisha Ibrahim, hailed the development as a defining moment for the legal profession and an inspiring victory for Nigerian women and girls aspiring to leadership.
According to her, the emergence of Mrs. Badejo-Okusanya demonstrates that dedication, integrity, professional excellence and commitment to service remain the pillars of effective leadership.
“The election of Mrs. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, as the 33rd President of the Nigerian Bar Association is a landmark achievement not only for the legal profession but also for women across Nigeria. Her success underscores the fact that merit, competence and visionary leadership continue to open doors for capable women in positions of influence and responsibility.”
Hajia Ibrahim noted that the newly elected NBA President has distinguished herself through years of outstanding legal practice, professional integrity and unwavering commitment to justice, expressing confidence that her leadership will further strengthen the legal profession and advance the cause of the rule of law in Nigeria.
“Her emergence sends a strong and encouraging message to women and girls that barriers can be broken through hard work, resilience and excellence. We are confident that her wealth of experience, sound judgment and dedication to justice will enhance the Nigerian Bar Association’s role in promoting constitutional democracy, protecting fundamental rights and deepening public trust in the administration of justice.”
The NAWOJ Chairperson further reaffirmed the Association’s commitment to collaborating with the Nigerian Bar Association in promoting access to justice, defending press freedom, advancing gender equality and supporting initiatives that contribute to national growth and development.
She added that NAWOJ looks forward to a stronger partnership with the NBA under Mrs. Badejo-Okusanya’s leadership in championing human rights, safeguarding media freedom, protecting vulnerable groups and strengthening democratic institutions.
On behalf of the entire membership of the Association, Hajia Ibrahim congratulated Mrs. Badejo-Okusanya and all newly elected national officers of the NBA, urging them to work collectively towards advancing justice, professionalism, equity and national progress.
NAWOJ expressed optimism that the new NBA leadership will usher in renewed reforms, uphold the independence of the legal profession, strengthen the rule of law and further enhance public confidence in Nigeria’s justice system.
