Security Forces Rescue Victims in Imo, Launch Manhunt for Kidnappers

Twenty prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members abducted in Imo State have been rescued after spending six days in captivity, following a coordinated search-and-rescue operation by security agencies.

The victims were rescued at about 4:28 p.m. on Wednesday at Amakohia Ubi Village in Imo State, bringing relief to their families and loved ones who had been anxiously awaiting their safe return.

The prospective corps members were reportedly abducted on October 1, 2026, while travelling through the state.

The rescue operation involved the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), military and other security agencies, which sustained coordinated efforts to locate the victims and secure their release.

Confirming the development, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Iniedu, said the successful operation was the result of sustained operational coordination and collaboration among the participating security agencies.

Following their rescue, the victims were taken for medical examination and necessary medical attention as part of the post-rescue process.

Meanwhile, security agencies have intensified efforts to identify and apprehend the suspects responsible for the abduction.

The Nigeria Police Force commended members of the public for their cooperation and support during the operation, while reaffirming its commitment to protecting lives and property and responding swiftly to threats to public safety.

The police said further updates would be provided as investigations and efforts to apprehend the perpetrators continue.
