Receiving the award, Comrade Ike described the recognition as both humbling and inspiring, saying it represents not only a personal milestone but also a celebration of the resilience, sacrifice and professionalism of journalists who continue to serve society with dedication.
“I receive this Silent Hero in Management Award with profound gratitude, deep humility and a strong sense of responsibility,” she said.
She expressed appreciation to the organisers for finding her worthy of the honour, stressing that the award belongs to every journalist, media professional and union member working tirelessly behind the scenes to strengthen the profession and uphold the principles of responsible journalism.
According to her, effective leadership thrives on teamwork, sacrifice and selfless service, noting that the achievements recorded by the NUJ FCT Council have been made possible through the collective efforts of members, executive officers, chapel leaders, veterans of the profession and strategic partners.
Comrade Ike affirmed that the award would further strengthen her resolve to champion the welfare of journalists, expand capacity-building opportunities, promote ethical journalism, foster unity within the union and create initiatives that enhance the professional and economic well-being of members.
Reflecting on the role of the media in nation-building, she emphasised that journalists remain custodians of truth, defenders of democracy and advocates for accountability, especially at a time when misinformation, insecurity and other societal challenges continue to test the nation’s resilience.
She urged media practitioners to remain steadfast in upholding ethics, professionalism, fairness and the public interest in the discharge of their responsibilities.
Dedicating the award to journalists across Nigeria who continue to serve with courage despite numerous challenges, Comrade Ike also acknowledged the invaluable support of her family, mentors, colleagues and everyone who has contributed to her leadership journey.
“This recognition is not the end of the journey; rather, it is renewed motivation to contribute even more to journalism, nation-building and humanity,” she stated.
She further commended the organisers of the Silent Heroes Awards for celebrating individuals whose selfless contributions often go unnoticed, describing the initiative as a worthy platform that recognises impactful leadership, excellence and service to society.
