The Nigeria Police Force, Zone 7 Headquarters, Abuja, has marked Customer Service Week 2026 with a general lecture and medical outreach designed to strengthen professionalism, improve service delivery and promote the wellbeing of police personnel.

Held in line with the 2026 theme, “The Extra Mile,” the programme provided officers and personnel with an opportunity to reflect on the responsibilities that come with policing in a democratic society and the need to build stronger relationships with members of the public.

At the heart of the celebration was a general lecture that examined practical ways officers can improve their interactions with citizens and enhance public confidence in the Police.

Discussions focused on professionalism, effective communication, public relations, empathy, accountability, responsiveness and trust-building, with emphasis on the role of every police officer in shaping public perception of the Force.

The Zone noted that going the extra mile in policing goes beyond simply performing assigned duties. It involves listening patiently to complainants, providing accurate and clear information, responding promptly to distress calls, assisting vulnerable persons and treating every member of the public with dignity and respect.

According to the Zone, every encounter between a police officer and a citizen presents an opportunity to either strengthen or weaken public confidence in the institution.

The celebration also featured a medical outreach for officers and personnel, underscoring the importance of caring for those who dedicate their lives to protecting others.

The initiative was anchored on the principle that policing is fundamentally a public service and that quality service delivery is strengthened when personnel are adequately supported, appreciated and cared for.

The Zone 7 Headquarters further emphasised that professionalism must remain at the centre of police-citizen relations, noting that responsiveness, empathy and accountability are essential to building a Police Force that citizens can trust.

Beyond the lectures and medical intervention, Customer Service Week 2026 offered an opportunity to recognise the sacrifices and commitment of police personnel while reminding them of the profound responsibility attached to their daily interactions with Nigerians.

For Zone 7, “The Extra Mile” is therefore more than a theme. It represents a call for officers to consistently exceed the minimum, put humanity at the heart of policing and make every encounter with the public an opportunity to demonstrate professionalism, respect and service.
