The Women in Security Summit and Awards (WINSEC) 2026, an initiative of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), has received a major boost following the commitment of the African Independent Television (AIT) to provide extensive media support, including live coverage of the awards ceremony and comprehensive publicity for the event.

The assurance was given by the management of Daar Communications Plc, owners of AIT, during a courtesy visit by the leadership of NAWOJ and members of the WINSEC Secretariat to the organization’s headquarters in Abuja.

Leading the delegation was the National Chairperson of NAWOJ and Chairperson of the WINSEC Committee, Hajiya Aisha Ibrahim, who sought strategic collaboration with one of Nigeria’s foremost broadcast organizations ahead of the highly anticipated summit and awards ceremony scheduled for June 30, 2026.

Receiving the delegation, the Chief Executive Officer of Daar Communications Plc, Chief Marcel Anyanyechi, applauded NAWOJ for initiating a platform dedicated to celebrating the often-unheralded contributions of women serving across Nigeria’s security institutions.

According to him, the Women in Security Summit and Awards represents a timely intervention that acknowledges the courage, dedication, patriotism and sacrifices of women who continue to play critical roles in safeguarding the nation.

Chief Anyanyechi noted that at a time when security remains a major national concern, recognizing the efforts of security personnel and other stakeholders is not only necessary but also capable of inspiring greater commitment, professionalism and excellence.

He stressed that addressing Nigeria’s security challenges requires a united approach involving the media, security agencies, government institutions and citizens, describing national security as a shared responsibility that demands collective action.

Reaffirming AIT’s support for the initiative, the media executive pledged the full backing of the Board, Management and Staff of Daar Communications Plc towards ensuring the success of the summit and awards.

As part of its commitment, AIT will provide live coverage of the awards ceremony, giving the event nationwide visibility and enabling audiences across the country to witness the recognition of outstanding individuals contributing to national security. The station will also deploy its news teams to provide extensive coverage of the summit and related activities.

In addition, AIT will support the promotion of the event through the broadcast of publicity materials, scroll message announcements and strategic awareness campaigns aimed at mobilizing public interest and participation. The organization also pledged technical support and professional guidance to enhance promotional content and ensure it meets the highest broadcast standards.

Chief Anyanyechi further emphasized that AIT remains committed to using its platforms to promote responsible journalism, public enlightenment and national security awareness.

“We will work with you, partner with you and collaborate with you to ensure that the ceremony comes out successful. Those who are making sacrifices for the peace and security of our nation deserve to be recognized and honoured,” he stated.

Speaking earlier, Hajiya Aisha Ibrahim expressed appreciation to the management of AIT for its warm reception and unwavering support for the initiative.

She described WINSEC as more than an awards platform, explaining that it serves as a strategic forum for advancing discussions on national security, peacebuilding, leadership, gender inclusion and sustainable development.

According to her, the summit seeks to highlight the indispensable role of women in security while fostering collaboration among stakeholders committed to building a safer and more prosperous Nigeria.

The 2026 edition of the Women in Security Summit and Awards is themed, “Celebrating Courage, Passion, Loyalty, Commitment and Sacrifice of Service in Securing the Nation.”

Scheduled to hold at the prestigious Transcorp Hilton Abuja, the summit is expected to attract a distinguished gathering of security chiefs, policymakers, media practitioners, development partners, civil society leaders and other stakeholders.

Discussions will focus on contemporary security challenges, inclusive leadership, peacebuilding strategies and the promotion of gender-responsive approaches to national security.

The event will culminate in the recognition of exceptional women and other champions whose dedication, professionalism and service have contributed significantly to the peace, security and development of Nigeria.

With AIT’s commitment to providing broad media visibility and strategic communication support, WINSEC 2026 is poised to emerge as one of the most significant security-focused gatherings of the year. Beyond celebrating excellence and honouring service, the summit is expected to strengthen national conversations on security, leadership and inclusion, while spotlighting the critical role women continue to play in safeguarding the nation and shaping a more secure future for generations to come.
