The attention of the ‘Coalition of Civil Society Groups for Peace, Security, Good Governance, Equity and Justice’ has been drawn to a highly fictitious, malicious, and defamatory post circulating on Facebook, authored by a known cyber terrorist, which purports to declare Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Jimoh Moshood “wanted.”
We wish to state unequivocally that this publication is absolute falsehood, a figment of the criminal imagination of its author, and a calculated attempt to smear the hard-earned reputation of one of Nigeria’s most dedicated and outstanding senior police officers.
It is a basic matter of law and common sense that only the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), the Department of State Services (DSS), or a court of competent jurisdiction holds the statutory authority to declare any citizen—let alone a serving Assistant Inspector General of Police wanted. A random Facebook post by a faceless cybercriminal holds no legal weight and is an affront to the collective intelligence of the Nigerian public.
We hereby issue this statement to set the records straight and alert the public to the following facts:
* This fake declaration is clearly the handiwork of criminal syndicates and enemies of state who are feeling the intense heat of AIG Jimoh Moshood’s relentless and uncompromising war against crime. When criminals can no longer operate freely, their last resort is cheap blackmail and character assassination.
* Using social media to impersonate state authority, spread dangerous misinformation, and threaten a senior security chief constitutes a severe violation of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act. The author of this post is a cyber terrorist seeking to undermine public confidence in the Nigerian security architecture.
* AIG Jimoh Moshood is a highly decorated officer who has served this nation with utmost integrity, professionalism, and patriotism. From his time as the Force Public Relations Officer to his current elevated rank, his commitment to the safety of Nigerians remains unassailable.
*We urge all well-meaning Nigerians, bloggers, and media houses to entirely disregard, discard, and report this fake Facebook post. Do not share or amplify the propaganda of cyber terrorists.
We call on the Inspector General of Police to direct the Cybercrime unit to immediately track, unmask, and arrest the individual behind this treasonable publication. The full weight of the law must be brought down on this cyber terrorist to serve as a deterrent to others who think they can weaponize social media against state officials.
AIG Jimoh Moshood remains focused on his statutory duties and will not be distracted by the dying kicks of frustrated criminal elements.
