The Ministry of Defence has expressed its readiness to partner with the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (Pi-CNG & EV) to promote clean energy adoption and ease transportation costs for its personnel.

The Honourable Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), OFR, disclosed this during a meeting with a delegation from the initiative, led by its Chairman, Barrister Ismaeel Ahmed, at the Ministry of Defence Headquarters in Abuja.

General Musa emphasised that the Armed Forces of Nigeria possess enormous potential to drive the adoption and utilisation of clean energy within the nation’s transportation sector.

According to the Minister, embracing the initiative would not only reduce transportation costs but also significantly enhance military operations across the country. He noted that the Armed Forces have the requisite human resources, technical expertise and institutional capacity to contribute meaningfully to the successful implementation of the national CNG and electric vehicle programme.

The Minister further underscored the importance of exploring sustainable energy alternatives, particularly in view of the growing need for cost-effective and environmentally friendly transportation solutions within the defence sector.

Earlier, the Chairman of Pi-CNG & EV, Barrister Ismaeel Ahmed, explained that the delegation’s visit was aimed at securing the Ministry’s partnership in accelerating the consumption of natural gas and promoting the transition to cleaner energy sources across the defence sector.

As a demonstration of the initiative’s commitment to the proposed collaboration, Ahmed announced plans for the delivery of CNG-powered buses to the Ministry of Defence.

He also encouraged the Ministry to prioritise sustainable energy solutions in meeting its transportation needs, noting the benefits of transitioning to cleaner and more affordable alternatives.

The proposed partnership is expected to strengthen the adoption of clean energy within the defence sector while contributing to the Federal Government’s broader efforts to promote sustainable transportation and reduce the cost of mobility.
