Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have foiled a terrorist ambush along a key supply route in Borno State, neutralising three attackers and recovering weapons and an improvised explosive device (IED).
The incident occurred at about 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday along the Miyanti–Banki Junction axis in Bama Local Government Area, where troops of the 151 Task Force Battalion were conducting operations on the Main Supply Route.
According to the Joint Task Force, the terrorists launched the attack after triggering an IED and opening fire on the troops.
The soldiers responded immediately, fought through the ambush and conducted a search of the area, resulting in the neutralisation of three terrorists.
Items recovered from the scene included an AK-47 rifle, one magazine, 14 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition and another IED.
One soldier sustained injuries during the encounter and was promptly evacuated for medical treatment. He is reportedly stable and responding to treatment.
A gun truck also sustained minor damage during the engagement.
The military said the successful operation underscores the determination of troops to keep critical routes open and deny terrorist groups freedom of movement across the North-East.
It added that troops would sustain pressure on terrorist elements while continuing operations aimed at protecting communities, securing vital routes and maintaining the free movement of people and essential supplies across the region.
