The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, has been honoured with the Humanitarian Award for Excellence in Service in recognition of her outstanding contributions to societal development and humanitarian causes.

The prestigious recognition was bestowed on her by the Women of Glory Foundation during its 10th Anniversary Celebration held in Abuja on Saturday, June 6, 2026. The Foundation also described her as the “Most Active Journalistic Mobilizer,” acknowledging her exceptional leadership in uniting and inspiring journalists toward promoting national development and public interest causes.

The award ceremony formed a major highlight of the Foundation’s decade-long celebration of service, compassion, and empowerment. Over the past ten years, the Women of Glory Foundation has built a reputation as a beacon of hope for widows, elderly women, single mothers, and other vulnerable members of society, providing support through empowerment programmes, mentorship, vocational training, healthcare interventions, and faith-based guidance.
With an active presence across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, the Foundation has continued to champion advocacy on national development, women and child protection, health awareness, environmental sustainability, and economic empowerment.

Speaking at the anniversary event, the Founder of the Women of Glory Foundation, Dr. Nneka Evelyn Nzewi, reflected on the painful experiences that inspired the establishment of the organisation.

According to her, the Foundation emerged from personal struggles, resilience, faith, and a commitment to ensuring that vulnerable women receive the support and opportunities needed to rebuild their lives.

“At a very young age, I lost my father. My mother was suddenly left to raise five children without a support system, while also enduring the painful loss of two of her children. I watched her struggle daily to survive, provide for us, and hold on to hope despite overwhelming challenges,” she recounted.

Dr. Nzewi explained that witnessing her mother’s hardship shaped her lifelong commitment to supporting women facing similar circumstances.

“What many women need is not merely charity, but dignity, opportunity, encouragement, and people who believe in their potential. That conviction became the foundation upon which this organisation was built,” she said.

Representing Comrade Grace Ike at the event, the Assistant Secretary of the NUJ FCT Council, Sharon Emephia, expressed appreciation to the Foundation for recognising the efforts of the Council and its leadership.

She commended the organisation for sustaining its humanitarian vision over the past decade, describing the milestone as a remarkable achievement.

“Ten years of sustained impact is no small accomplishment. It reflects resilience, vision, consistency, and a deep commitment to service. At a time when many initiatives struggle to survive, your decade-long journey stands as a powerful testament to purpose-driven leadership and genuine compassion,” she stated.

Speaking on behalf of the NUJ FCT Chairman, Emephia conveyed Grace Ike’s gratitude for the honour, noting that the recognition belongs not only to her but also to the entire NUJ FCT Council.

“I sincerely appreciate the organisers for this recognition. I receive this honour with gratitude and humility. It is not merely a personal award but a reflection of the collective efforts of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, FCT Council, and the values we uphold in promoting truth, development, accountability, and societal progress,” the message read.

The organisers, in their closing remarks, expressed profound appreciation to supporters, partners, volunteers, and members who have contributed to the Foundation’s success over the past ten years.

As the Women of Glory Foundation looks ahead to the future, it remains committed to expanding its reach and deepening its impact, ensuring that more women and vulnerable individuals are empowered to live with dignity, purpose, and hope.

The anniversary celebration brought together women from diverse professional, social, and community backgrounds, many of whom have distinguished themselves through service and leadership, creating an atmosphere of inspiration, reflection, and renewed commitment to nation-building.
