NAWOJ FCT Seeks Partnership With Polish Embassy on Women’s Empowerment

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) FCT Chapter is seeking collaboration with the Polish Embassy in Abuja to enhance women’s empowerment initiatives

 

This was made known when the Chairperson NAWOJ FCT Chapter, Bassey Ita-Ikpang alongside members of the association, paid a courtesy visit to the Polish Ambassador.

 

She expressed the Association’s desire to partner with the Embassy to promote women empowerment and development.

 

Speaking at the event, Comrade Ita-Ikpang highlighted NAWOJ FCT’s plans to commemorate International Women’s Day, including a Market Place Advocacy scheduled for March 26th and a Capacity Building Workshop for Female Journalists on March 27th.

She sought the Embassy’s support and partnership in strengthening the impact of these initiatives.

 

Comrade Ita-Ikpang described NAWOJ FCT as a professional body of female journalists with about 350 members in the Federal Capital Territory, championing advocacy for women, children, and vulnerable groups, while promoting responsible journalism and capacity building for female journalists.

 

“At NAWOJ, we strongly believe that collaboration remains key in advancing gender equality, media professionalism, and sustainable development.

“This visit will provide an avenue to strengthen engagement and build meaningful cooperation.

Poland is a nation widely respected for its rich history, resilience, and remarkable contributions to global development, especially in areas such as education, innovation, democratic values, and social progress.

 

“We commend the Polish government and its diplomatic mission in Nigeria for their continued efforts in strengthening bilateral relations between Poland and Nigeria. Your contributions towards development cooperation and cultural exchange are truly appreciated,” she stated.

 

She noted that NAWOJ plays a strategic role in bridging the gap between government institutions, development partners, and citizens through credible and ethical journalism.

 

The proposed partnership is expected to amplify women’s voices, promote health awareness, and encourage social development within communities.

 

In his remarks, Michal Cygan, the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to Nigeria, expressed willingness to partner with NAWOJ FCT, and assured of the Embassy’s commitment in supporting the Association’s initiative.

 

The Ambassador said the embassy is committed to strengthening the Association’s initiative through training, and exchange programmes .

 

He assured of the Embassy’s willingness to support women particularly in areas of women in political leadership and providing visibility and advocacy support to them.

 

The Ambassador’s statement underscores the Polish government’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Nigeria and promoting development cooperation, cultural exchange, and social progress.

 

He expressed optimism that the collaboration between NAWOJ and the Embassy would empower women with knowledge and open up more opportunities for them.
