The Democratic Front (TDF) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for prioritising governance over campaign rallies ahead of the January 2027 presidential election, describing the decision as an exemplary demonstration of responsible leadership.
In a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Mallam Danjuma Muhammad, and Secretary, Chief Wale Adedayo, the group said the President’s decision reflected his commitment to national interest and the uninterrupted delivery of government programmes.
TDF noted that the move aligned with the administration’s Nigeria First policy, launched on May 5, 2025, following its approval by the Federal Executive Council.
According to the group, Tinubu’s decision would enable him to concentrate on consolidating the gains of his administration’s economic reforms rather than being distracted by political campaigns.
The group criticised opposition figures, particularly African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, over their reactions to the President’s decision, describing the criticisms as unpatriotic.
TDF maintained that Tinubu had demonstrated a willingness to place the responsibilities of governance above personal political interests.
It also argued that the All Progressives Congress (APC) possessed a strong campaign structure capable of communicating the administration’s achievements to Nigerians without requiring the President’s physical presence at every rally.
Highlighting the administration’s record, the group cited economic reforms, efforts to address insecurity, the student loan programme, and interventions in healthcare and agriculture as key areas of its performance.
It further pointed to initiatives aimed at improving access to treatment for kidney and cancer patients, reducing food prices, and boosting government revenue and national productivity.
TDF dismissed suggestions that the President’s reduced participation in campaign rallies could benefit opposition candidates, insisting that his record in office would remain central to the 2027 electoral contest.
The group described Tinubu’s approach as a positive example of leadership, arguing that sustaining governance and delivering on policy commitments should remain priorities during the electioneering period.
