CRH Praises NCDC, Health Minister Pate Over Case Management, Calls for Emergency Funding to Strengthen Nationwide Surveillance
By Chioma Vivian James | Abuja
The Coalition for Renewed Hope (CRH) has commended the Federal Government, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, for their swift response to a reported imported Ebola case in Abuja, urging Nigerians to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information.
In a press statement issued on October 22, 2026, the coalition praised the authorities for promptly identifying and isolating the patient, confirming the infection and initiating contact tracing to minimise the risk of further transmission.

According to the coalition, the patient, a woman who reportedly arrived from Uganda through Addis Ababa, was confirmed to have Ebola on October 20, while 44 contacts had been identified and placed under monitoring.
The group also commended the activation of emergency response mechanisms and enhanced disease surveillance at international airports, seaports and land borders to prevent the potential spread of the virus.
It described the response as evidence of the importance of strengthening Nigeria’s public health emergency preparedness and disease surveillance systems.
The coalition further urged Nigerians to follow official public health advisories, practise regular handwashing, report suspected symptoms promptly and avoid circulating unverified reports about the situation.
It cautioned against misinformation, particularly claims about travel bans or the extent of the reported case, stressing the need for accurate information from recognised health authorities.
The CRH also called on the Senate to expedite approval of emergency funding to strengthen disease screening, surveillance and response capabilities across the country.
While commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his administration’s attention to the health sector, the coalition urged the government to sustain investments in public health infrastructure and international cooperation to protect Nigerians from emerging infectious diseases.
The statement was signed by Comrade James Okoronkwo, National Coordinator of the Coalition for Renewed Hope.
Editorial note: Before publication, independently verify the Ebola case details, the reported 44 contacts, the patient’s travel history and the quoted WHO position with official sources, including the NCDC and WHO.
